Sesleria 'Greenlee Hybrid'
Greenlee’s Hybrid Moor Grass

sesleria greenlee's hybrid moor grass
This grass is a hybrid of unknown parentage that appeared in our old Pomona nursery. It caught our eye as having physical attributes similar to a few different Seslerias.

Characteristics:
  • Taller than Sesleria caerulea, but shorter than Sesleria autumnalis
  • Coloring is similar to Sesleria heufleriana
  • Rich, blue-green leaves grow 8-12" high as well as wide in tiny mounds of durable, evergreen foliage.
  • Best in full sun, but will tolerate light shade - especially during in the hottest parts of the day.
  • For hot, inland valley climates, this Sesleria 'Greenlee Hybrid' is a better choice compared to Sesleria caerulea.

Uses:
The Sesleria 'Greenlee Hybrid' can be used as single specimens in small gardens and perennial borders or in groups and masses in larger gardens. It is a dependable, large-scale ground cover grass.

Planting/Spacing:
Plant 12-18" on-center depending on the desired effect and the addition of bulbs and flowering accents. It is best planted in fall or spring from plugs or pots but it can be planted any time of the year in all but the coldest climates as long as moisture is sufficient.

Coastal:
Grows well by the coast, but is untested in 1st exposure sea coast.

Alpine/Altitude: Good to 8000 feet

Slopes:
Not recommended for steep slopes in hot inland valleys but would work on lightly shaded slopes as long as moisture is sufficient.

Watering:
Grows best with regular water and will not tolerate extended period of heat and drought. Drought tolerant in coastal settings. Plantings in hotter inland valleys will need more water to look good in the hot summer months.

Maintenance:
A very low maintenance grass - looks great all year round!
Does best with a light trimming in fall or early spring to promote new growth. It can be trimmed any time of year if foliage needs refreshing.

Diseases and pests: None!
